WindowBox
A downloadable game for Windows

A shelf of potted plants that lives on your taskbar. Buy a pot, plant something in it, and it grows while you get on with your day.
The window is transparent, always on top, and fixed along the bottom of the screen, so the shelf reads as a piece of furniture on your desktop rather than an app you have open. Clicks that miss the plank fall straight through to whatever is behind it, so it never gets in your way.
What you do
Water
it. When the colour drains out of a plant it has gone thirsty and stopped
growing. One click brings it back.
Tidy it. Every plant sheds the odd brown leaf as it lives, watered or not. Click the leaf to brush it off.
Sell it. When the pink flowers open, the plant is finished and worth the most it will ever be. Drag the pot onto the Shop button to sell, and the pot stays behind, empty and ready to plant again.
That is the whole loop. There are no menus to manage, no stat bars, and nothing blinking for attention. A plant tells you what it needs by how it looks.
Growing things
Three
plant types: a cactus, a fern and a monstera. The cheap ones grow fast and the
expensive ones are slower and worth more, so a shelf ends up being a mix of things
you are about to sell and things you are waiting on.
Every plant goes through four stages, and a plant only earns its keep once the flowers actually open, so there is a real reason to leave one standing rather than flipping it the moment it sprouts.
Pots are unlimited. Each one costs more than the last, and you put them wherever you like along the plank, so the shelf ends up arranged rather than assigned. If you change your mind, an empty pot sells back for exactly what you paid, so nothing you buy can strand you.
Before you download
Growth
happens in real time, and only while the game is open. This is not an idle
game that pays out while you are away. It is something small that lives on your
desktop while you are already there.
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. There is no installer. It is one executable, and it saves your garden automatically.
To quit, use the gear at the left-hand end of the plank, or the tray icon. The window is deliberately borderless, so there is no close button in the corner.
What this is
This is the first version, and it is the whole loop rather than a slice of it. More plant types, more pot styles and a Steam release are what the money goes towards. If you like it, paying what you think it is worth is what makes the rest of it happen.
